What to do in a Dental Emergency
During a dental emergency, stay calm and call the Life Family Dentistry team. We’re happy to help patients when they need us most. Contact our office, and we will do our utmost to see you on the same day. Some first aid tips patients can use to maintain health and manage pain until they arrive include:
- Keep any cuts or wounded areas clean – gently swishing water is typically adequate
- Use ice at 20 minute intervals (20 on and 20 off) to relieve pain and reduce swelling
- Apply gentle pressure to lacerations to slow or stop bleeding – if this does not stop the bleeding, applying ice to the affected area may help
- Store knocked out teeth or large pieces of broken teeth back in the vacated socket, between the cheeks and gums, or in a container of water or milk to preserve these structures until you arrive at our office
- If you experience bleeding that does not stop within half an hour or what you believe is a broken jaw, proceed directly to your nearest emergency room, and our team will be happy to help once you are safe
